Dorothea Regal Named to Crain’s New York Business Notable Women in Law List
New York, NY—December 20, 2021—Hoguet Newman Regal & Kenney, LLP founding partner Dorothea Regal has been recognized on Crain’s New York Business’ 2022 list of Notable Women in Law. The list honors women who serve in a senior level role at a law firm, act as role models or mentors to other women lawyers, and promote inclusive practices in the workplace.
As head of the Insurance Recovery practice at HNRK––the women-owned litigation boutique she co-founded over 25 years ago with partners Laura Hoguet and Fredric Newman––Dorothea has recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for policyholders from their insurers. She is regularly sought out to handle complex and valuable insurance coverage disputes in international and U.S. arbitration and litigation.
Dorothea plays a key role in the management of HNRK and has been instrumental in transitioning the firm to the next generation of successful and talented lawyers. She is a champion of, and example to, women lawyers. She has consistently mentored the firm’s interns, associates, and younger partners—both male and female—and was instrumental in establishing the firm’s policy, even before the COVID-19 pandemic, of flexible hours and work locations, creating an environment where all the firm’s attorneys can maintain a thriving work-life balance.
Dorothea is a fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel, the preeminent association representing the interests of policyholders and insurers in disputes arising out of insurance policies. She serves as the policyholder-side co-chair of the Business Interruption Insurance Subcommittee of the ABA’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee. She is also active in the ABA’s Women in Insurance Network and the Women’s Leadership Circle of Brooklyn Law School, a program aimed at advancing women lawyers in their careers.
This award is the latest in a string of recent recognition for Dorothea. Earlier this year, she was named the Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyer of the Year by Euromoney, a Distinguished Leader by The New York Law Journal, and a Notable Woman Business Owner by Crain’s New York Business. She has also been honored as an Elite Boutique Trailblazer by The National Law Journal, a Local Litigation Star in New York by Benchmark Litigation, and a New York Metro Super Lawyer in the area of Insurance Coverage.
