Damian Cavaleri, John Curley, and Helene Hechtkopf Named to Euromoney Legal Media Group’s Rising Stars Shortlist

New York, NY—August 7, 2019—Hoguet Newman Regal & Kenney, LLP partners Damian Cavaleri, John Curley, and Helene Hechtkopf have been named to Euromoney Legal Media Group’s 2019 Rising Stars shortlist. This national award celebrates leading attorneys under the age of 40 across a number of practice areas. Damian was shortlisted in the Best in Litigation: Trial Lawyer category, John was shortlisted in the Best in White Collar Crime category, and Helene was shortlisted in the Best in Litigation: General Commercial category.

Damian has experience litigating and arbitrating a wide range of business and employment-related disputes. He regularly handles all aspects of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, trial, and appeal. Recently, as lead trial counsel, Damian won a multimillion-dollar jury verdict against Mastercard International on behalf of a Jordanian financial services firm, and successfully defended one of New York’s largest medical centers against numerous employment discrimination claims in a six-week trial before the notoriously employee-friendly New York Supreme Court, Bronx County, among other matters. He was recently named to Benchmark Litigation’s 2019 40 & Under Hot List.

John focuses his practice on complex business and securities litigation and white collar enforcement proceedings. He represents clients in securities-related regulatory investigations and proceedings, including investigations by FINRA, the CFTC, the SEC, and the Department of Justice, and also represents clients in civil securities litigation and complex commercial disputes, including RICO and securities fraud. He successfully defended an equities trader against unfounded insider trading allegations; a FINRA panel dismissed the proceeding in its entirety following a three-day disciplinary hearing. He has also defended clients in connection with international money laundering allegations and defended a former director of a publicly-traded company in securities litigation. This is the second consecutive year John has been named to Euromoney’s Rising Stars shortlist.

Helene represents clients in a wide range of litigation, including commercial, employment, and appellate matters. She has significant experience representing railroads and has developed a niche practice doing so; for example, she has represented the Metropolitan Transit Authority in several matters, including cases filed under the Federal Employers Liability Act. Her work representing railroads is only one part of a larger practice representing public entities. She actively contributes to the bar as a member of the Executive Committee of the New York Bar Association’s Commercial and Federal litigation section. She was recently named to Profiles in Diversity Journal’s 2018 Women Worth Watching list.
