Fredric Newman and Miriam Manber Recognized in Best Lawyers 2026 Guide
Hoguet Newman Regal & Kenney partners Fredric S. Newman and Miriam Manber have been honored in the 2026 edition of Best Lawyers in America®. As a member of the firm’s next generation of leadership, Miriam’s recognition signals the firm’s continued commitment to growth and elevating the client experience.
A founding partner of the firm, Fred is a distinguished legal generalist with five decades of experience in commercial litigation, business counseling, corporate transactions, employment counseling, and alternative dispute resolution. Fred’s long and celebrated career as a commercial trial lawyer has included many precedent-setting wins, most notably a $126 million trial decision in a trademark licensing case involving royalties to be paid for using the iconic Palm restaurant intellectual property. Shortly after the trial decision, New York Commercial Division Justice Andrea Masley, who tried the case, ordered defendants to pay $4.6 million in attorneys’ fees and expenses to HNRK for its successful prosecution of the case and praised Fred’s trial skills as “extraordinary.”
Currently, Fred is trial counsel in a major insurance recovery litigation alongside HNRK partner Brad Nash, and in two bankruptcy cases with firm counsel Steve Silverberg. This year, Fred has represented several executives in their employment matters. Widely recognized in the New York legal community, Fred received the New York Law Journal’s 2020 Lifetime Achievement award. In addition to being a 2026 Best Lawyers honoree, Fred is an annual Benchmark Litigation Star, and he has also been named a Litigation Trailblazer by The National Law Journal and a leading lawyer by Chambers USA.
Miriam is a seasoned trial lawyer and trusted counselor who handles commercial and employment disputes on behalf of a diverse client base, ranging from individuals to public agencies and multinational corporations. With experience in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings, and arbitrations, she has won numerous favorable outcomes, including on dispositive motions, in jury and bench trials, and on appeal. She recently played a pivotal role on the trial team in a multimillion-dollar insurance coverage dispute and represented the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and its affiliate agencies in several high-profile matters, including a multimillion-dollar trial challenging the New York City Subway’s speed policy. She has been named to Benchmark Litigation’s 40 & Under List, recognized as a Woman Worth Watching by Profiles in Diversity Journal, and named a Rising Star in Litigation by New York Super Lawyers.
Best Lawyers® compiles its honorees at the conclusion of a months-long peer-review process, during which researchers ask leading attorneys about the professional abilities of their colleagues.
